About Janice
Janice Maxwell lives on Russell Island in beautiful Moreton Bay, and when
possible works in her studio located at her home. Having travelled extensively
both here and overseas, Janice was taken with the landscapes and colours of the
interiors, mainly the hues and ochre of the Kimberley region of the Northern
Territory and the abundant wildlife found in both Australia and overseas. Her
first love is for the classical sculptures of the Renaissance period. Having
studied locally, under a South African sculptor for many years, she then
furthered her studies with a retired Gold Coast portraiture artist, to get the
feel for colours that could translate to ceramics. Janice's work is evolving and
changing, the local environment has become inspiring and is a work in progress.
While caricatures of frogs, turtles and geckos have been a source of her work,
her latest exhibition Shadow Of The Fire is about form, rhythm and motion, emulating perhaps the
inspiration found from Henry Moore. Each viewer can interpret the pieces
individually.
